Signs of Beard Growth

Beards can make men look manly and attractive, but many teenagers have a hard time growing beards. Factors such as genetics and age determine the growth of beards. But are there signs that indicate beard growth? The answer is: yes. In this post, we are going to discuss the signs of beard growth.

True Signs of Beard Growth

#1   Bearded Ancestors

Just look at your ancestors to know whether you will grow a beard. If most of your male relatives have beards, chances are that you will grow a beard.

The contributions of genes are simply undeniable. In fact, genes are the most important factor determining beard growth.

You may get your beard genes from your mom's side as well. However, although it is a widespread claim, there is not enough research to support this claim. Therefore, this claim should be taken with a grain of salt.

This age-old question still needs a definite answer from a beard-loving scientist. For now, you can assume that both your father's and mother's families are the determining factors for the growth of your beard.

Ethnicity also plays an important role here. Native Americans, Mexicans, and Chinese in general have less facial hair. White men, on the other hand, tend to grow thick beards. However, there are many exceptions.

#2   Hairy Body

A hairy body is one of the most reliable signs of beard growth. If your body is hairy, most likely you will grow facial hair. You will grow manly stubble if your arms, chest, shoulders, and legs are hairy.

When it comes to predicting the growth of your future beard, some other things have to be taken into consideration. Pay attention to the growth of hair in certain parts of your body, such as your head and chest.

But does that mean that hair fall conveys a negative message for your beard? Not really. Even if you lose a lot of hair and go bald, you are unlikely to lose your beards. It is very normal for a bald man to grow a full beard.

A hairy body is not a sure-fire indicator of healthy beard growth, but it is a pretty good indicator.

#3   A Wooly Puberty

Guys who notice a lot of hair growth all over the body during their puberty usually grow thick, full beards later. It can happen during the teenage years or in the 20s.

In contrast, hairless teens usually have a hard time growing beards. Some of them grow patchy beards while others grow no beard at all.

However, we should note here that many hairless teens grow a full beard later in their 20s. Wooly puberty is one of the strong signs of beard growth. However, a lack of body hair in your teens does not necessarily indicate that you will have a hard time growing a beard in your later life.

#4   A Healthy Lifestyle

To some extent, your lifestyle determines your beard growth. If you eat a lot of veggies, fruits, and seafood, you are more likely to grow a beard. Foods rich in biotin and Omega 3 fatty acids such as sweet potatoes, avocados, and oysters promote beard health.

Regular physical exercise keeps your hormones well-balanced and that can also stimulate hair follicles both on your scalp and face. Exercise also increases your testosterone levels and thus promotes beard health. Resistance training boosts your T levels that contribute to beard growth.

Adequate sleep is one of the most important indicators of a healthy lifestyle. Your beard health greatly depends on your sleeping patterns. So, if you are not having enough sleep, which is the case for most young men these days, be serious about it.

#5   The Ability to Handle Stress

Stress has a lot of adverse effects on your bodily functions including beard growth. Worrying too much can kill your sex drive and zap out your energy.

People experiencing too much stress are prone to hair loss. Stress can severely hamper the growth of a beard in its anagen phase. The ability to handle stress is a strong indicator of good beard health. The good news is, you can develop your ability to handle stress by incorporating yoga and meditation into your daily routine.

Taking Care of Your First Beard

When your beard starts to form, you must be serious about beard care and maintenance. In most cases, teenagers learn it from the older male members of their families.

Purchasing and using shaving cream and a razor for the first time can be a fascinating experience for a teenager. But a teenager usually does not buy a razor immediately after noticing the signs of beard growth.

At first, for most teenagers, the beard is not thick at all. A first-time shaver should use a disposable razor. Some teenagers prefer beard trimmers partly because they are easier to use.

These shaving methods have their strengths and weaknesses. If you want a very close shave, use a razor and shaving cream. However, the razor may cause a little bit of irritation, and inflame acne.

It is up to you to figure out what shaving method is suitable for your skin. If you have acne, you may prefer clippers. Clippers are also recommended for teenagers with sensitive skin.

And if you choose a razor, take a hot shower before you use the razor. The hot shower will open up the pores, giving you a smooth shaving experience. You can get the same result by wiping your face with a hot towel.

A trimmer or clipper will only remove hair from the surface of the skin, but a razor is used for smooth shaving.
